Board of Directors

Harry Welten

Harry joined the Biognosys Board of Directors in June 2011. He currently serves as Chief Financial Officer at Cytos Biotechnology AG in Zurich. Harry has more than 25 years of international senior executive experience, ten of which in biotech. Prior to joining Cytos he was CFO at Nitec Pharma AG which he successfully merged with the US based pharma company Horizon Pharma Inc. in order to go public at the US stock market in 2011. From 2001 to 2009, he was CFO at Arpida AG where he raised more than CHF 250 million in private equity and public monies including the Initial Public Offering at the SIX Swiss Exchange in 2005. Prior to joining Arpida, he was a Director at UBS Warburg in New York following various senior positions within the UBS Group. He holds a degree in banking and finance, a degree in economics and business administration and an MBA (Hons.) from Columbia University, New York.

 

Dr. Hellmut Kirchner

He joined Biognosys Board in April 2011. He was a senior advisor at Sal. Oppenheim Private Equity Partners GmbH since 2010 and has more than 25 years of experience in venture capital and private equity. As early as 1983, he co-founded Techno Venture Management (TVM), the first German venture capital fund. Later, Dr. Kirchner co-founded VCM Capital Management in Munich, where he managed more than one billion Euro. Dr. Kirchner studied law and business administration in Munich and Lausanne and holds a doctorate of law.

 

Dr. Michael Sidler

He joined the Biognosys Board of Directors in 2009. Michael is a founding member of Redalpine Venture Partners AG, Zurich and is General Partner for the Redalpine Capital I fund (Luxemburg). Before becoming an Investor, he was responsible for Corporate Investments and M&A at Prionics, a Biotech Startup based in Schlieren. From 1998 to 2003, Michael worked for The Boston Consulting Group in Zurich and Toronto in different functions as a project manager. Michael is in various organizations, juries, and advisory boards for the development and support of start-up companies such as CTI Startup, Venturekick, CTI Invest, SECA, Technopark Zürich und Glatec. In addition to his engagement in Zurich, he is a partner at Intro International AS, a Norwegian company commercializing emerging technologies. He studied biology at the University of Zurich and received his PhD in 1998.

 

Ignacio Martinez

Ignacio is a Principal at Syngenta Ventures, the venture capital arm of Syngenta. Ignacio has more than 10 years experience in venture capital investing globally in Life Sciences, Cleantech and Agribusiness. At Syngenta Ventures he is responsible for investing in and managing a portfolio of companies that can provide strategic value and financial returns for Syngenta. He currently serves on boards of several of the fund’s portfolio companies. Prior to Syngenta Ventures, Ignacio was the CFO of Progenika, an international biotechnology group of companies. Located first in Europe and then in the US, Ignacio led the finance and operations functions, raised venture capital, created spin-offs and successfully participated in the international expansion of the group. Prior to Progenika, he spent several years working in venture capital investing in Life Sciences and IT first in Najeti Ventures and then at Seed Capital. He holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from Deusto University and completed an International MBA at IE Business School in Spain and Germany.
